Post-Poetry: Anis Mojgani — A POEMNAPKIN PHOTOREVIEW
A POEMNAPKIN PHOTOREVIEW
to the tune of “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough”
opening act : THE UNDERGRAD GET-LAID SOUNDTRACK
mise-en-scene –
the white boys play the acoustic guitar
I like the way your accessories
sit on the bridge of your nose when you’re
confused
and I like the way your voice strains
when you try to sing
a progression that’s bigger than you are
and I like the way lovesongs
fit like a handkerchief in your breast pocket
and I like that your t-shirt
has an indiepop logo on it and I like
the foam
on the bridge of your nose
when the pilsner glass cracks against bone

1. Bring in insightful anecdote
2. Start with inane joke
3. Insert sentences w/ as many consonants as possible
4. Use just as many bad metaphors
— “I write my poems without training wheels” —
5. Say something vaguely touching
6. End w/ moralizing closure
